The Fungal Queendom

The Fungal Queendom

Fungi are the keystone species that interconnect every facet of life in our world. This class will highlight the supreme influence these ancient and often overlooked organisms have upon our health, society, and environment and also provide a succinct peek into the Fungal Queendom from the perspectives of ecology, anthropology, pharmacology, and bioremedation. The class also features a workshop component that teaches attendees how to perform low tech and low cost mushroom cultivation techniques that can be replicated at home with upcycled materials.

// About Craig //
Craig Trester is a mycologist and native New Yorker who applies principles of biomimicry to develop sustainable solutions for a future which faces many ecological challenges. By studying Fungi, he believes novel approaches towards alternative sustainable agriculture, pharmacology, and bioremediation can be realized. Craig leads a mycoremediation project at community biolab, which seeks to train local species of fungi to degrade common chemical and microbial contaminants.

Outside of the lab Craig is the sole proprietor of MYC.NYC, a Mycology educational resource based in New York City that teaches the benefits Fungi provide to our health, environment, and society. MYC.NYC’s current projects encompass: building a culture library of fungal species native to the New York City metropolitan area, giving introductory lectures on the amazing Queendom that is Fungi, teaching mushroom application/cultivation courses at venues across the city, making connections with local environmental/conservation organizations on Mycoremediation strategies, and collaborating with hydroponic farmers/community gardeners to help improve yields by implementing Fungi in their agricultural designs.

Envision at Ambrosia: Patterns & Paradigms in Social Permaculture

******Patterns and Paradigms in Social Permaculture*********
Exploring social, bioregional and global patterns of dis-ease and harmony.

Eventbrite tickets

Description: From the micro and to the macro-cosm, the universe repeats patterns over and over again. Maximizing the efficient flow of energy, creating diverse backup systems of resilience, we see the universal patterns reflected in our human biological, social, and psycho-spiritual design. In our desire to understand the patterns and sometimes chaotic natural phenomenon of our ancestral bioregions, humans developed what is known as paradigm. Belief systems such as economies, social structures and religion have shaped the world we exist in today. To really understand why we are the way we are in this extractive, non-renewable, exploitive system, we need to look at the bigger picture to understand how we can restructure power dynamics and co-evolve on a planetary scale. No answers here, only musings of possibilities for a socially just future.

$15 admission

***Ticketing through Eventbrite and at Door.

Check out our first workshop of the evening!

5-7pm Conscious Consumption, Exfoliating the Ego with Jill TrAshley

(From the Facilitator) In my workshop I explore the energetic and physical properties of the CUP. I do this by taking you on a journey through a brief history of religion, pagan ritual and witchcraft; tying all beliefs together with the sacred chalice, cup, vessel. This is a guided discussion on how we can fill our cup and maintain that flow, as well as what happens when our cups runneth dry. Together we explore daily cup filling moments we can employ to refill it. We then integrate this discussion into the physical by exploring mass consumption and waste diversion in modern day North America, bringing awareness back to the cups we choose to drink out of. My intention is to empower participants to see the value in their cups as not only vehicles for energy, both physical and spiritual, but to understand the significance of the cup as an extension of ourselves. What does your cup look like? What stickers, gems and elements are represented in your version of your cup? Let’s vision that and end single use in the process as a group.

****Interactive workshop where we will vision and create food for our skin in the using typical food waste from the kitchen and plants from the property.****

Join us for this very special and unique offering, not to be missed!
***Ambrosia - The NOHM Presents: Oral Skills for Ingesting Extracts w/ Jill TrAshley**
**PART OF OUR NOHM PROJECT-ENVISION VILLAGE WITCHES WORKSHOPS SERIES at AMBROSIA ELIXIRS**

Featuring Envision Festival Co-Producer, Village Witches/Punta Mona Founder Sarah Wu & Conscious Consumption Advocate, Village Witches Co-Producer and Nohm Project Founder Jillian TrAshley

From the Facilitator, NOHM Project Founder Jill TrAshley:
"In my skillshare I focus on menstrums as “vehicles.” My goal is to reprogram our conventional perception of medicine consumption, via a pill, with a familiar understanding of the variety of extracts we can easily make at home on a daily basis. I believe that oral skills and reverence for herbal medicine can provide empowerment toward our daily routine. In this session I will explore the differences and processes around basic and traditional extractions; focusing on water, honey, vinegar, oil and alcohol. I will have medicine in process and finished products for folks to see, smell and sample. There will also be a focus on bio-regionally appropriate medicine making, encouraging participants to learn more about where they live and what is available in their yard and in their natural surroundings.

This is an interactive skillshare where we will develop oral skills such as swooshing, blowing, smacking, nectar pressing and a combination of all for a sensorotic experience.

Last 15 minutes of class will be open for questions and transactions. where NOHM extractions will be for sold.

About Jill TrAshley:
For the last decade, Jill TrAshley has been spearheading efforts toward more efficient and responsible waste streams in the festival industry within the United States and internationally. Engaging in creative pursuits and empowering initiatives like #ElixirsasMixers through the NOHM, the #EndSingleUse campaign pioneered by Lucidity Festival, and the Envision Festival #CompostCrashCourse via Facebook, TrAshley focuses on collaboration and cooperative action, employing this righteous alliance in a myriad of endeavors.

Currently TrAshley is working full time on her business, The NOHM Project, which was birthed in 2015 in efforts to bring more conversation and consumption into awareness while in an event setting. The NOHM Project is a Benefit Corporation that is based out of Asheville, NC.
